We care so deeply about our local San Francisco community. Every one of the children and young adults we support financially originated in the San Francisco area.
Annual events are a wonderful way for us to partner with other local organizations to raise funds that directly support youth in the foster care system.
Mighty Fine Wines
Every fall, “Mighty Fine” wineries gather to pour fantastic wines and raise funds for local youth in foster care. Our event features amazing wineries, lots of silent auction items, appetizers, and desserts. We are an all-volunteer organization which means every dollar donated goes directly to a child in need!
Due to the pandemic, our 2020 and 2021 Mighty Fine Wines events were held as online auctions.
Our 2022 event will be held exclusively online as well. We hope for an opportunity in the coming year to resume our in-person event, but for now, please support us by visiting:

Mae Louise Mays Softball Tournament
For nearly two decades, the Mae Louise Mays Softball Tournament has been our signature fundraising event and one of the highlights of each year.
Hosted at Moscone Field in partnership with the Recreation and Park Department, nearly two dozen teams compete in the annual double-elimination tournament. Hundreds of families and friends come to picnic, barbecue, and cheer on their teams. Attendees can buy raffle tickets to win sponsor-donated prizes in-between games.
Some games are close. Others are blowouts. It’s fun to see what happens when a lineup of police officers faces off against a team of social workers and librarians. But no matter the scores or the match-ups, the spirit of the day is always one of fun and fellowship, knowing that the tournament supports some of the city’s most vulnerable children.
In 2014, the Fund permanently changed the name of the softball tournament to honor the work of Mae Louise Mays. She was an adoptions worker for the city during the 1960s and early 70s, and a pioneer in recruiting African American families to adopt African American children from foster care. Social workers today build on her work. Ms. Mays also has a unique connection, having married the greatest baseball player ever, one who had a similar commitment to helping children, Willie Mays.
*** Due to COVID-19, the Mae Louise Mays Softball Tournament is postponed until further notice. For updates on annual events, please subscribe to our email list. You can also support the San Francisco Foster Youth Fund by making a donation. Our Board of Directors is volunteer-only, so every dollar you give goes directly to children and teens impacted by foster care.
